Couple's Apps to keep your techno love burning

It's that month again where everyone is talking about love. The malls are full of Valentines day promos and restaurants are offering up "romantic" and "unforgettable" dinner for two. Everyone is stressing out about what gift to give their significant other, what dress to wear on the date and even what to eat. Blogs are being written about Valentines gift ideas, how to act during a date, blah blah blah.

On the other side of the spectrum, singles are starting their own boycot of this purely consumeristic man-made celebration of love on a random date of a random month. But since it seems like everyone is talking about love, I am compeled to write something about it, this however will talk more about how technology can help keep relationships alive in the modern world.

I will be talking about Couple's Apps.

What is a Couple's app?

It is an application built to cater to two people allowing them to share interests, moments, milestones etc. These apps are built to provide couples a hub that would allow them to keep their relationship interesting by giving them alternative ways to share time in virtual space. These Apps are particularly popular with couples in long-distance relationship and for couples whose jobs require them to travel a lot. It is essentially a life saver for most relationships that have to grapple with the love-grinch called distance.

I will not be talking about simple IM apps or VOIP apps that allow couples to communicate constantly. No, those apps are boring and they do not add a certain "spice" to the relationship.

Couple's apps have different offerings to love birds ranging from the ability to send messages, share moods, share pictures, interact virtually, etc. Below are some of these apps I find interesting and they all offer more than just messaging capability.

Here are my top 3 Couples Apps.

1. Pair (Couple).

Pair (Couple) is at the top of my list. It has a very simple beautiful design that works. Despite its simple design it does not lack for features. It offers couples private messaging, shared library, shared calendar, a shared list and for iOS users- Facetime integration.  I used this app with my wife who lives thousands of miles away. It also works really well for couples planning something like a trip while miles apart with its ability to create a shared list. This app is available to both iOS and Android users. (Android version does not support Facetime integration)

The cute factor of this app: You can send each-other a thumb kiss and you can collaborate on a work of art with its Sketch feature.

2. Avocado.

Avocado is a Couple's app that has a lot of similarities with Pair. It offers private messaging, shared list, shared album and option for paid premium content. Its main difference with Pair is its paid subscription options that allows you unlimited Shared lists and Shared images, early access to new features and the ability to add images from web search. Avocado is available on both iOS and Android.

The cute factor of this app: You can send each-other a Virtual Hug and a Virtual Kiss. Unlike Pair's "Thumb-kiss", Avocados virtual hug does not send until you put your smartphone on your chest and its virtual kiss does not send unless you give your smartphone a smooch. Just thinking about it give me love bugs.

3. TheIceBreak.

TheIceBreak is not a ship, it is a couples app that actually rewards couples for in-app engagement in the form of icebreaker questions that the couple can answer. The app allows the couple to earn coins the couple can use on a real date. The winning formula for this app is the fact that it is highly Interactive and rewards the couple with real world rewards. This app is available in iOS.

The cute factor of this app: You can actually go on a real date so that you can prove to your friends that your girlfriend is real.

Other/ more creepier apps:

1. Feel me.

Feelme is an app that brings virtual couple engagement to a different level. If you are thinking cyber porn...shame on you, this is a wholesome blog. The app is still not launched but you can pre-register on their website thru this link. Feelme works like a VNC app that allows the couple to share their screen and interact. It lets the couple know where on their phone screen the other person is touching and if they both touch the same spot of their screens their phones vibrate. (planned for iOS only)

2. HeyTell.

Heytell is a messaging app that works like Voxer and other Push to Talk apps but it also supports location services so you know where your other half is. This app works great for couples who want to know where their partner is while communicating with them but cannot afford a spy drone. This app also allows the couple to purchase voice packages that allows them to change their voice. This will make for a more interesting role playing game between the couple- naughty librarian matches perfectly with sexy fireman voice. Available in iOS and Android.

3. Findmyfriends (iOS) and Google Latitude (Android).

Both these apps were not made to be a Couples app but they work perfectly for the purely stalkerish couples. This app lets the couple track their beloved's whereabouts in real-time making for a very interesting relationship that is very "open". We all give apps like facebook, path and foursquare access to our location all the time, why not our significant other right?

As you can see there are a lot of offerings out there giving couples a lot of choices. So whatever the two of you are interested in and whatever you two feel like doing, there is an app for that so go ahead and download away  and celebrate this love month with some techno love.
